Every year on 7 December, the Armed Forces Flag Day or Flag Day of India is observed to honour our soldiers in uniform who fought and continue to fight on our borders.
Armed Forces Flag Day has been observed every year in India since 1949. It started when a committee set up under the then defence minister on 28 August 1949 decided to observe a Flag Day annually on December 7.

Significance

Flag Day has gained more significance over the years as it was considered that the civil population of India should be responsible to take care of the families and dependents of the armed forces personnel who lay down their lives for the country.
Now, the day is also dedicated to the collection of funds from the people of the country for the welfare of the Indian Armed Forces personnel.
In almost every state, funds are collected for the widowed wives of the martyrs, their children, and ex-soldiers who were injured or disabled in the line of duty.

Objective

The three primary objectives of Flag day are – Rehabilitation of battle casualties the welfare of serving personnel and their families, and resettlement and welfare of ex-servicemen and their families
The Flag Day fund is managed in the country by the local arms of the Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB), which is a part of the Ministry of Defence.
