National Voters’ Day

  • National Voters’ Day is celebrated on January 25 every year since 2011, all across the country to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India on January 25, 1950.
  • The main purpose of the NVD celebration is to encourage, facilitate and maximize enrolment, especially for the new voters.
  • The ECI is a Constitutional body that is bound by its responsibility to conduct free and fair elections in India at all levels of the legislature.

National Voters’ Day 2022 theme:

  • The theme for this year is ‘Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible and Participative’.

Koo launches multi-lingual guide on voter rights and responsibilities:

  • On the occasion of National Voters’ Day, microblogging platform Koo has released a multi-lingual guide on voter rights and responsibilities to empower first-time voters to make informed decisions during the upcoming assembly elections in five states.
  • According to a statement, the guide focuses on the basic rights of the Indian voter as enshrined in the Constitution, and enumerates the responsibilities voters need to consider before and after casting their votes.
