Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency

• The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is an executive agency of the Department of Health and Social Care in the United Kingdom which is responsible for ensuring that medicines and medical devices work and are acceptably safe.

• The MHRA became the first global medicines regulator to approve an RNA vaccine, giving temporary regulatory approval for use of the BioNTech/Pfizer’s BNT162b2 COVID-19 vaccine.

Chief coach of Indian athletics

Athletics Federation of India (AFI) on Friday appointed the vastly experienced Radhakrishnan Nair as its full-time chief coach, filling the post left vacant after the resignation of Bahadur Singh in July. Radhakrishnan Nair was also earlier nominated for the Dronacharya Award.

• The Athletics Federation of India is the apex body for running and managing athletics in India and affiliated to the World Athletics, AAA and Indian Olympic Association.
• The AFI has as many as 32 affiliated state units and institutional units.
• The AFI came into existence in 1946 and the federation organises the National Championships, trains the Indian Athletics National Campers, selects the Indian Athletics Teams for various international competitions, including the Olympics, Asian Games, CWG, World Championships, Asian Championships and other international meets, conducts the National Championships for various age categories.

HL-2M Tokamak

• The HL-2M Tokamak reactor is China’s largest and most advanced nuclear fusion experimental research device, and scientists hope that the device can potentially unlock a powerful clean energy source.
• It uses a powerful magnetic field to fuse hot plasma and can reach temperatures of over 150 million degrees Celsius, according to the People’s Daily—approximately ten times hotter than the core of the sun.
• The reactor is often called an “artificial sun” on account of the enormous heat and power it produces.

Exercise (PASSEX)

• The Indian Navy (IN) is undertaking a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with Russian Federation Navy (RuFN) in the Eastern Indian Ocean Region (IOR) from 4 to 5 December 2020.
• The exercise involves the participation of RuFN guided-missile cruiser Varyag, the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Panteleyev and medium ocean tanker Pechenga.

Hualong-1

• Hualong One, also known as Hualong-1 or HPR1000 is a Chinese pressurized water nuclear reactor design.
• The Hualong One is the most common reactor design under construction in China, and the mainstream technology in the near future. China also plans to export the reactor.
